Also using real quotes and apostrophes in programming preempts the need to quote the quote marks when using straight quote marks in text to be displayed on screen. I use real apostrophes (’) and quote marks (‘’, “”) because `′ looks really dumb in this modern age. Why would AutoCorrect change an apostrophe (’) to an acute accent (′)? Even so, the red squiggles underline everything in “wouldn’t” from the ‘w’ to the ‘t’. JeJe wrote:If your autocorrect was replacing a typed apostrophe with an acute accent ´ instead of an apostrophe that would cause the spelling to flag up the words - the wouldn in wouldn´t would be in red as it isn't a word.Įdit: or if you were typing the grave accent ` (on the top left below the escape key on my UK keyboard) instead of an apostrophe, that flags the whole word in red and suggests the replacement of wouldn't with an apostrophe. This wouldn’t be a problem if Hun-, I-, My-, Spell would accept real apostrophes. So that might be a clue as to what I need to do. Which then brings up the question of why I cannot add more useful words to the Ignore list permanently? I also remember reading there seems to be another set of dictionaries that are read only. If there wasn’t any question, then there wouldn’t be any need for my name to be in the Ignore list anyway. If there was any question about the spelling of my name, I would simply add it to the dictionary. One other thing that occurred to me today is having my name in the Ignore All dictionary permanently is pretty much a waste. I think it could be done with the exceptions dictionary, so that is why I was looking for a thread on some sort of tutorial. I need AOO to ignore these words permanently. The Ignore All dictionary works, but it resets when AOO is closed. Here I am still trying to figure out a way to get OpenOffice to stop flagging words in the dictionaries just because there is a real apostrophe in the word. I saw this in the index and forgot I posted it. I came here looking for some sort of tutorial on the exceptions dictionary that would explain the syntax. I must have read something somewhere that doing that had some useful purpose. Well, I deleted it, but I still don’t know what the point was in doing it in the first place.
